The 2nd Westlake Symposium on AEM-WE Successfully Concluded in Hangzhou, China

From April 11th to 13th, 2025, the 2nd Westlake Symposium on AEM-WE was successfully held at Westlake University, Yungu Campus. This specialized symposium was jointly organized by Westlake University, Baima Lake Laboratory, Zhejiang Haigao Association(the Energy, Resources, and Environment Branch), and the Center of Artificial Photosynthesis for Solar Fuels at Westlake University. The event invited renowned domestic experts, scholars, and industry professionals in the field of anion exchange membrane water electrolysis hydrogen production to deliver presentations and share insights. Communication and exchange were further facilitated through roundtable discussions, poster sessions, and other interactive formats. Over 400 participants from universities, research institutions, and industries gathered on the campus of Westlake University to exchange the latest research findings and share forward-looking perspectives on the industry. The symposium successfully achieved its intended objectives and received positive feedback from the field.

The opening ceremony of the symposium was presided over by the conference convener, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Chair Professor of Chemistry at Westlake University, and Director of the Center of Artificial Photosynthesis for Solar Fuels, Licheng Sun, who delivered the opening speech. He explained the original intention of the conference and extended a warm welcome to the experts, colleagues, and participants. Haidong Fan, Deputy Director of the co-organizer Baima Lake Laboratory, delivered a welcome address. Leaders, including Guoqiang Wang, Director of the Zhejiang Provincial High-Level Talent Service Center under the Provincial Organization Department, attended the opening ceremony.



More than ten distinguished speakers, including Professor Gaohong He from Dalian University of Technology, Professor Zhaoxiong Xie from Xiamen University, Professor Hua Zhang from City University of Hong Kong, Professor Tongwen Xufrom the University of Science and Technology of China, Professor Lin Zhuang from Wuhan University, Professor Baoguo Wang from Tsinghua University, Professor Jianguo Wang from Zhejiang University of Technology, Researcher Dehui Deng from the Dalian Institute of Chemical Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Professor Yang Hou from Zhejiang University, Professor Rui Hao from Southern University of Science and Technology, Professor Daojin Zhou from Beijing University of Chemical Technology, Researcher Qiangmin Yu from Tsinghua Shenzhen International Graduate School, Dr. Jun Cao (Technical Director of Winshi Hydrogen Energy), Dr. JianFei Wei (Chief Engineer of Schaeffler Investment (China) Co., Ltd.), as well as Dr. Tang Tang, Dr. Zhiheng Li, and Dr. Rong Ren from Westlake University, among others, attended the event. Over the course of two days, they delivered academic presentations and participated in roundtable discussions centered on themes such as "Membrane Materials for AEM-WE, Catalytic Electrode Materials for OER/HER, Stack Assembly, and System Integration Applications." The conference was highly focused, featured in-depth discussions, and fostered a lively on-site atmosphere. Many attendees expressed that they benefited greatly from the event.




 

 

During the closing session, Professor Zhaoxiong Xie from Xiamen University and Professor Baoguo Wang from Tsinghua University, delivered remarks as representatives of the guest speakers. They affirmed the conference's significant role in bridging industry, academia, and research within the field of AEM-WE technology. Furthermore, they expressed strong hope that this conferences series would drive the advancement of green hydrogen production technology from fundamental research toward industrial application.
